Gamay Noir is a red vinifera hybrid of Pinot Noir and an ancient white
variety Gouais (Goo-wah). Gouais is a central European variety that was probably introduced to northeastern
France by the Romans (University of California).
We have taken our first 2 crops from our Gamay Noir (2010-2011) and have had winners reported
already!

We planted Gamay Noir to replace the Cabernet Sauvignon block, which we lost in the 2004-2005 winter
disaster. This wine can be made in a serious dry style with or without oak and is ready to drink
young. It offers the vinifera winemaker a mid range priced variety.
